Farmer John Brown(1832-1903) of Brookside, Georgia was the first to name the size of an average chicken egg. he said they should be about 2 oz. it should be 2 inches tall and 4 inches in diameter. He set this average of his own eggs after studying the eggs on his plantation in near by Silver Creek, Georgia he his son John Brown Jr. sent in these measurements to the FDA in 1926.
