Cartoonist and writer, Johnny Gruelle. He got into this as an escape from witnessing a horrifying bank robbery or suicide, where a man shot himself in the head, in full view of a crowded bank. The man needed some escape from reality- and found it in the newfound cartoon character and later doll, Raggedy Anne. Do not confuse with Little Orphan Annie, originally based on a poem or song by James Whitcomb Riley, a much more famous man of the pen. ( Riley songs of bliss) for example.
Raggedy Ann is a fictional character created by writer Johnny Gruelle in a series of books he wrote and illustrated for young children.
