This question maybe should be rephrased to something like: What is physics about? Physics is the study of the natural laws that govern nature. Physicists go about 'discovering' these laws and spend substantial time verifying the discoveries and determining all the consequences. Physics may be an exact or nearly exact science, but it is not perfectly mathematical. That is laws are never proven but only hypothesized. Then everyone goes about looking for an exception. The proof is never complete as the law is never mathematically derived and is always subject to revision.

· A physicist is a scientist who does research in physics. Physicists study a wide range of physical phenomena in many branches of physics spanning all length scales: fromsub-atomic particles of which all ordinary matter is made (particle physics) to the behavior of the material Universe as a whole (cosmology).

Physicists are interested in finding out what makes the universe tick. There are different kinds of physicists that study very different things. For instance, astro-physicists study the stars and planets. They are interested in how the stars and planets are born and what causes them to behave the way they do. It was a physicist that discovered the first "black hole." Many astronomers are physicists. Then there are nuclear physicists. They are interested in observing the smallest particles which are called "quarks" and determining how they fit together and form different substances. All physicists are interested in discovering the unknown, whether it be a new star or planet or the nature of the particles that form the nucleus of the atom.
