Melena and Frexspar are presented as Elphaba Thropp's parents in the book and stage versions of 'Wicked'. The aristocratic Melena is unhappy in her marriage to her missionary minister husband. But she manages to survive by turning to extramarital affairs. One such affair is with the Wizard of Oz, who gives her a bottle of a green liquid. And, interestingly enough, Elphaba is born with green skin, which is definitely absent from Melena's and Frexspar's family lines.
