Caesar Flavius Valerius Aurelius Constantinus Augustus, commonly known as simply Constantine was an emperor of the Roman Empire from 306 to 337 AD. His importance to Christianity is that he unified the various sects and made Roman Catholicism the official state religion in ancient Rome. The Nicene Creed, a mission statement of Catholic beliefs, is the result of the council he called, in 325, where the official beliefs of Roman Catholics was agreed upon. The Eastern Orthodox Christians consider Constantine a saint.
