The 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake was an undersea megathrust earthquake that occurred at Sunday, 26 December 2004. The earthquake was caused by subduction and triggered a series of devastating tsunamis along the coasts of most landmasses bordering the Indian ocean, killing over 230,000 people in fourteen countries, and inundating coastal communities with waves up to 30 meters (98 ft) high. It was one of the deadliest natural disasters in recorded history.
In Banda Aceh, Sumatra, it is 25-30 meters high. But some places the waves can be up to 3-10 meters high.
None of the states got hit by the actual tsunami. But however before the tsunami there was an earthquake which triggered an earthquake in Alaska.

The Great Asian tsunami was on Sunday the 26th of December 2004
The earthquake that generated the great Indian Ocean tsunami of 2004 is estimated to have released the energy of 23,000 Hiroshima-type atomic bombs, according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). Giant forces that had been building up deep in the Earth for hundreds of years were released suddenly on December 26, shaking the ground violently and unleashing a series of killer waves that sped across the Indian Ocean at the speed of a jet airliner. By the end of the day more than 150,000 people were dead or missing and millions more were homeless in 11 countries, making it perhaps the most destructive tsunami in history.

A tsunami
The four great oceans are the Indian Ocean, Atlantic Ocean, The Arctic Ocean, and the Pacific Ocean. These oceans cover about 71 percent of the Earth with water.
It seems that scientists and doctors are still working out how much people lost their lives in the Japan Tsnami and Earthquake in 2012, on websites people are saying more than 500,000 but there isnt an exact number yet.
Scholars assumed it is probably 50,000 years ancient. It's the time when before the great Tsunami struck the South Asia region and made numerous great changes in the landscapes of Asia, Australia and Indian Ocean.
