Corn (maize) is grown in virtually every US state except for Alaska to at least some degree. Some states do not have the preferable climate or soil types for large amounts of corn to be produced, but some farmers will still grow a little to feed their own livestock.

Corn is originally from Mexico. (The corn mentioned in The Bible is believed to be Barley.) "Corn" in the US refers to a specific plant that most of the word calls "maize". Outside the US, "corn" is a general word that can refer to any grain or even simply small particles that look kind of like grain. Some of this survives into words and phrases like "peppercorn" or "corned beef".

Since Illinois is the second-highest corn producing state in the United States, any state except Iowa (which is the top corn-producing state of the US) would qualify as an answer to this question, from Nebraska (third-highest corn-producing state) to Utah (38th-highest corn producing state).

What state is corn syrup from?

The state that has the Corn Syrup factory. This is probably a state where they grow a lot of corn. I'm thinking maybe Iowa, Illinois or Wisconsin. Oooh, here's an idea: Look at the bottle. It should say something like, "Made by Kraft Foods, Chicago, IL." Otherwise, there is no single place that corn syrup is manufactured. It's like asking where does all-purpose flour come from? It comes from many places.
