If the vehicle has two rows, the middle of the back seat. If the vehicle has 3 rows, the middle of the second seat. And that just about says it all. Even with side impact protection, airbags, door beams etc, the safest place for any child seat is as far as possible from the potential impact. The absolute middle fo the vehicle is ideal. The above answers are correct. However, it is not always possible to put the seat in the center position. Some vehicles prohibit the use of the center position for a carseat (IE Chevy Blazer), so ALWAYS double check your vehical owners manual. Also sometimes the carseat won't fit well in the center position, so in such a case you would try it in the outboard positions. If it fits there better then in the center, it is better to have the seat in the outboard position. A great fit outboard is better then a poor fit center. I would begin with your local police station for advice. I would purchase from the safety first web site for the seat you choose. www.safety1st.com
