Takatu River.
The Corantijn is the river that separates Guyana from Suriname. Suriname claims borders to the river's west bank. Guyana disputes that claim. The west bank is on the Guyana side of the river. The east bank is on the Suriname side.
The river originates in the Acarai Mountains of Guyana. Its course runs north about 450 miles [724 kilometers], to the Atlantic Ocean. Its waters mix with ocean waters between the area of the Guyanan city of Corriverton and the Surinamese city of Nieuw Nickerie. Despite the boundary dispute between the two neighbors, a ferry service runs between the two cities on either side of the Corentijn.
Other names by which the river may be referred include Corantyne, Corentyne, and Courantyne.
