It depends on which product you are gluing. Some glues will be excellent for one product and no use for another, so it's pointless to ask ' which is best 'without naming what you are gluing. - Having said that, I will say that the strongest wood gluehas been proven in strict tests by "Fine Woodworking " magazine to be Tite Bond lll .
According to a test done by Fine Woodworking magazine, regular PVA and Type 1 PVA came out ahead amongst the six types tested. Refer to the "Related Links" below the advertisements for more details on their testing.
ANS 2 - AS both of the Related Links are apparently defunct, I will add my answer. In my experience, TiteBond ll is the best wood glue available, and I believe it is a Type 1 PVA.
I have just found and read the results of the test that FW magazine did and in fact the strongest wood glue was TiteBond lll, a type 1 PVA, which I have not yet used.

Elmer's claims that there new Glue-All Max is the strongest. -I haven't tried it yet, but will get some and test it soon.
Epoxies are the strongest, but may not always create the best bond.

Many glues are very strong. There will be many 'strongest glues for different materials. You MUST specify a material for a definitive answer.
