It is not known exactly when Shakespeare began writing, but contemporary allusions and records of performances show that several of his plays were on the London stage by 1592.
On 29 June, 1613, the Globe Theatre went up in flames during a performance of Henry the Eighth. A theatrical cannon, set off during the performance, misfired, igniting the wooden beams and thatching. According to one of the few surviving documents of the event, no one was hurt except a man whose burning pants were put out with a bottle of ale. It was rebuilt in the following year.
Galveston sort of (arguably) invented the modern beauty contest. They began a competition at an event called Splash Day in 1920 which eventually became the international Pageant of Pulchritude event. Miss America started completely independently and, so far as I am aware, never had any direct connection although it would seem that it must have been inspired by Galveston's success.
