Personally, I like the X-men the best. Not only is it fun and entertaining, but it is relate-able and explores many kinds of personal and social issues that anyone could be going through. It also isn't limited to one main character. It has several and an ever changing cast.
That depends on what you are looking for in a character.
The X-men are the eternal outsiders. They symbolized the oppressed, whichever that may be. The oppressed could be based on race, gender, or even the social outcast.
Superman is a man with all the power in the universe who always makes the right decision. To quote one of his comics, he's an ideal, something for us to strive toward.
Batman is really a study of insanity. Bruce Wayne symbolically died with his parents in Crime Alley and Batman was born. He is obsessed with ensuring that no one has to suffer the same trauma he did. He sees the chaos of the world and tries to plan for it. He tries to create order out of chaos. This is why the Joker is a perfect foil to him. They are both obsessed, though they are for different things. I mentioned why Batman is obsessed, the Joker is obsessed with Batman.
