The left atrium pumps blood through the atroventricular valve(tricuspid valve) into the right atrium,then through the semilunar valve into the pulmonary artery to the lungs for gaseous exchange.

Oxygenated blood flows from the lungs by pulmonary arteries and veins into the right atria and ventricle which then flows through the aortic semilunar valve into the aorta to the rest of the body which then flows back into the heart through veins and arteries into the left atria and ventricle and back into the lungs and the process repeats.
