Killing or harming a police dog is a crime. A police dog is considered a police officer, despite not being human. Therefore by harming a police dog you are effectively harming a police officer in the eyes of the law. Police dogs are also very expensive to train and maintain. So not only would you be harming a police asset but you would also be angering the national treasury and taxpayers for wasting their money. Kicking or punching a police dog is a crime, unless the dog attacked for no reason, then it is self defence and acceptable. Otherwise you'll be jailed for harming the police dog. Killing a police dog, unless in self defence (except where the dog was set upon you by police) will also result in jail.

The first police force in England, the Metropolitan Police, was created by a Victorian called Robert Peel in 1829. However, the first UK police force (i.e. wearing a uniform displaying "police" and undertaking preventive policing as a formal objective) was the City of Glasgow Police, set up by an Act of Parliament in 1800, i.e. 29 years before the Metropolitan Police. In the U.S., that honor goes to the Boston, Mass. Police Department.
The person who was bitten must call the police and tell them what happened. Then, the police will go the area that the person was bitten at, investigate, and write a police report (they may take notes on the breed of the dog, the reason of why it bit someone, etc.). The police will send the report to a judge. Then, the judge will set a time for both people to come and tell their stories. From there on, the judge will decide if euthanasia for the dog is necessary. The police will take the dog and isolate it for 10 days, so that if the dog has rabies, symptoms will show (unless the dog has had its rabies vaccine). If the dog was provoked (an example is that the dog bit someone because the person entered the house and the dog got frightened) it has a small chance of being killed (the judge has to decide). If the dog has rabies, it must be killed or else it will bite others and become a danger. If the dog has bitten other people, the judge must decide whether the dog is to be euthanized or not. Another Perspective: You do not. Why did your dog bite you? You abusing it? Not feeding it? Beating it with something? Most dogs do not bite their owners except in extreme distress, anxiety, or fear.
