The Liberty Bell was made in England in 1751 at the request of the Speaker of the Pennsylvania Assembly. It cracked soon after its arrival and John Pass and John Stow cast another bell in 1758 using material from the original bell. A small crack appeared in this bell in 1846. It was rung that year for George Washington's birthday and that was the last time it was used because of fears of causing the crack to go further and the bell to break apart.
