Chevrolet fools you with this one. The thing that was the distributor in the back of the engine, is really the cam position sensor. It has a cap,rotor & plus wires, but the timing chores are handled by the computer. The other function of the unit, is to drive the oil pump. The housing isn't even metal, but some kind of plastic.The small wires comming out of the back of the housing go to the computer, to tell it the camshaft position. If you pull it out, make sure you have the engine on TDC, #1 firing position, before removing it. There are no timing marks on the front dampner to help in realigning it if you don't. Also, check the gear for abnormal wear, as mine was worn on one side, causing a strange, intermitted miss, that the dealer couldn't diagnose. (I did that myself)
