The cabin air filter is located on the passenger side of the front cowl. You will need to lift the hood.
Remove the 5 #25 Torx screws holding down the black cowl cover. Remove the two drain hoses that are connected to the cowl cover.
You can lift the cowl cover just enough to reach in and remove the air filter on the passenger side.
A silly design, but so do many cars.
I found the information for this here at the Volvospeed.com site. I googled How to replace Volvo S80 air cabin filter. The site has other How To bits that could help you. My search was for the cabin air filter, but I'm sure the air filter is on the site as well. Good Luck. I'm about to change mine in a few minutes.

You an buy an output speed sensor a 1999 Volvo s80 at any auto parts store. Any Volvo dealer can also get the part for you.
Just turn off the air back service light..
The only things you can service are spark plugs,air filter, fuel filter and oil filter with normal hand tools.
