The first step of the refining process is running crude oil through a distillation tower. At this time crude oil is separated into different basic products which then undergo further process at the refinery to create products that are sold to consumers. There are three classes of distillate products: Light: Liquid Petroleum Gas(LPG), gasoline, and naptha. Medium: Kerosene (and jet fuel) and diesel. Heavy/Residuum: Heavy fuel/bunker fuel, wax, and asphalt.
