I just removed a 1.7 Diesel starter motor.
ALLWAYS DISCONNECT BATTERY NEGATIVE TERMINAL (10 mm)
Remove top half of inlet manifold (8mm 12sided socket or spanner)
Undo the two plastic bolts on the expansion tank (water bottle. 10mm)
Move tank out the way
Look down onto starter motor; remove bolt on which goes through bell housing into starter motor (16mm )
Jack car up; from underneath look up to starter motor, remove bolt which goes through the starter into gearbox (15mm)
Remove nut from starter solenoid (little part of starter motor. 13 mm)
Undo Philips bolt and disconnect wire
You have removed your starter motor

∙ 15y agoRegardless of the Vehicle, the Starter Motor is always going to be in close proximity to the Fly Wheel, which is going to be protected by the Bell House Covering it.

How do you fit vauxhall combo starter motor?
This is how to remove it..... fitting is same but in reverse. First, remove the battery, taking off the negative connection first. Remove the 4 bolts holding the battery tray in place (13mm socket) Underneath the car, at the back of the engine, remove the pozi drive screw holding the LT lead to the back of the solenoid, remove the top nut connecting the thick cable to the back of solenoid (I found this easier to do once the starter was hanging loose) Back above the engine, loosen the 19mm bolt that holds the starter motor to the gearbox (it's a tight squeeze to get access to it) Then back underneath, loosen the bottom starter motor bolt (14mm) Back above, remove the 19mm bolt, underneath again and while supporting the starter, remove the 14mm bolt. The starter can then be jiggled about to remove it completely.
