HIV and AIDS first originated in Africa, it was first spread in monkeys (not sexually) and when the local ate the monkeys they would be infected and over time the virus mutated to be passed on as an STD and normal bodily fluid contacts.
AIDS comes from the HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus). It is thought that the HIV was from an older virus that mutated to what we call now HIV. Most likely, HIV mutated from a virus common to monkeys. Eventually, it mutated a little so that humans could get the virus, too.

When there are enough T Cells in you body your immune system can't handle it and when your immune systems shuts down its called AIDS. AIDS in itself doesn't kill you. Its the stuff that gets into your body when your immune system is down that causes you to die. AIDS is just the first step.
