Normally a swimming pool had a static skimmer installed at the side of the pool this is where the surface water from the pool runs through a leaf basket to the filter. a vacuum plate fits over the leaf basket area. A hose can be plunged into the vacuum plate that hooks into a pool floor vacuum head. this head is connected to an aluminum pole or handle after that you use it the same as a normal vacuum cleaner. A pool shop will be able to advise you on the correct choice of hard ware. RB

(1) A leaf basket in the normal position behind the static skimmer.
(2) A vacuum plate that fits over the leaf basket with a pool hose hole in it.
(3) A swimming pool hose with the correct fittings on either side one side to fit into the vac plate and the other side fits onto the pool vacuum head.
(4) A pool vacuum head ( I have always preferred the ones with the multitude of wheels on the front and the back.
(5) A telescopic pool net pole that fits onto the vacuum head. Well, for most pools, assuming that they are in ground, you can eliminate #'s 1 and 2 above, #3. the hose can be anywhere from 30' to 50' depending upon the length of the pool and the location of the skimmer. A standard pool vac hose will fit both the standard vac head and all skimmers. #4. Would of course be a flexable vac head. Preferrably a good quality one with ball bearing wheels.

You should have a vacuum plate with a hole in it for the he hose to be plugged into. The vacuum plate is a disc shaped object that fits over the leaf basket in the pools static skimmer box. If you cant find one you may have to get one from a pool shop.
