Cactus of various forms and species grow in desert areas around the world, including South America (Chile, Argentina), the southwestern US (Sonoran desert) and others. I have seen prickly pear in Saudi Arabia, but am not certain if it is native to there.
Clarification:
Cacti are strictly new world plants. However, there are introduced species in parts of Africa and Australia, mostly prickly pear. They quicky turn into an invasive and noxious pest.

It is best to leave cacti alone. Many nurseries and garden centers sell a variety of cacti which have been grown from seed. They are also available on the internet.
