The title of a woman married to a knight was Lady.

The title of a woman who was herself a knight was usually Dame, though some English orders of knighthood, such as the Order of the Garter, styled their female members Lady. Please see the link to a related question below, "Could women be knights in the medieval times?"

Knights usually pledged themselves or swore fealty to a higher ranking "lord". This placed them at the disposal of that lord. A lord, on the other hand, had to pledge a certain number of knights to the king as a sort of tax. So the matter was left up to the lord. Very few knights were landowners. If they married, their wives would also live in the lord's castle or manor.
