∙ 13y agoKnights usually pledged themselves or swore fealty to a higher ranking "lord". This placed them at the disposal of that lord. A lord, on the other hand, had to pledge a certain number of knights to the king as a sort of tax. So the matter was left up to the lord. Very few knights were landowners. If they married, their wives would also live in the lord's castle or manor.
A woman married to a knight would typically be referred to as "Lady [Husband's Last Name]" or "Lady [Her First Name] [Husband's Last Name]."
