Romans 5:12 answers this question directly. That scripture says: "That is why, just as through one man sin entered into the world and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men because they had all sinned." That "one man" was Adam. By Adam's rebellion, he made himself imperfect, thus he was only able to pass on imperfection to his offspring. In our imperfect state, we are subject to sin and death.

Original sin came from when Adam and Eve bit the furbiden fruit from a tree they were not supposed to, thus making God angry.

AnswerOriginal sin comes from a desire of the early Church leaders to justify the rite of baptism. Without the evidence of this ceremony, people might be unsure whether they were Christians and waver about following the rules of the Church. Augustine of Hippo (354-430) developed the concept of original sin, saying that everyone is born with original sin, and that it can only be washed away by baptism. Unless Christians are baptised, the stain of original sin means they can not enter heaven. Augustine said that original sin resulted directly from the disobedience of Adam and Eve and was passed down through inheritance to all the descendants of the first two people on earth. The doctrine was adopted by the western half of the Christian Church, but never accepted in the Greek-speaking east.

Whether original sin is more than an idea developed by man, depends very much in part on whether Adam and Eve were real, historical people and the actual ancestors of all people on earth. On this, Cardinal George Pell recently stated that the story of Adam and Eve is a myth, describing it as a religious story told for religious purposes. Cardinal Pell went on to say that in his view, atheists will "certainly" go to heaven if they have led good lives, which is almost a denial of original sin and the need for baptism.

"Sin" literally means, "to be without a share in; to miss the mark; to err, be mistaken; to do or go wrong." All sin arises out of disobedience to God, and the first sin recorded in The Bible was that of Eve and Adam eating the forbidden fruit in the Garden of Eden.

Did Jesus fail to deliver mankind from sin?

No, He didn't. He expiated ALL the sin of Mankind - ever. Did he deliver Mankind from its susceptibility to being enticed to sin? No. Did he remove the effects of the sin in the world up to that time? No. Did he remove the effects of the sin in the world after His time? No. But He promised that there will come a time when those issues will be dispatched, and sin and its effect - death - will be no more. Just give Him time.
