In the 1940's 3 guys in Honolulu, Hawaii got together to make coin operated machines for men and women in the service. They distributed them to army bases and such. Originally named Standard Games until around 1950 when they renamed themselves to Service Games to fit their purpose. Rosen Enterprises and Service Games merged in 1965 to create Sega Enterprises. "SEGA" is nothing more then an abbreviation for "SErvice GAmes".

This cripples all the arguments of how to pronounce "Sega" since everyone believes it's Japanese. So to all the video gamers out there: Yes, SEGA is in fact the oldest video game company ever!
