In 1813, Jackson sent home an Indian child found on battlefield with his dead mother. This boy, Lyncoya, (c1811-1828) may have originally been intended as kind of a pet and companion for Andrew Junior, but Jackson soon took a strong interest in him. He was educated with Andrew Junior and Jackson had aspirations of sending him to West Point. Political circumstances made that impossible, and Lyncoya went to train as a saddle maker in Nashville. He died of tuberculosis in 1828."

Andrew Jackson did not have any biological children, but he and his wife, Rachel Jackson, adopted three sons: Andrew Jackson Jr., Theodore Jackson, and Lyncoya Jackson. At the time of adoption, Andrew Jackson Jr. was 12 years old, Theodore Jackson was 10 years old, and Lyncoya Jackson was about 7 years old.
Jackson was known to have had three adopted sons. An Indian about whom little is known named Theodore. The son of his wifes dead brother Severn Donelson named Andrew Jackson Jr. And Lyncoya, a Creek Indian orphan who was adopted by Jackson after Jackson's army had decimated his tribe in the Creek War. Lyncoya died of tuberculosis in 1828, at the approximate age of sixteen.
Lyncoya was a Creek Indian infant whose mother had been killed in the attack on Tallaseehatchee, located in what is now Calhoun County, Alabama, The few women not killed during the battle refused to take another woman's child. The baby was taken back to Fort Strother and Andrew Jackson was the only person who knew how to get the baby to take some milk. Jackson gave the baby his name and sent him to his home in Nashville and unofficially adopted him. Life for Lyncoya was not ideal, he tried to run away several time to rejoin his people. Finally Jackson sent him to a saddle maker in Nashville as an apprentice. Lyncoya died at age 16 from TB. His burial place is unknown/
Andrew Jackson was married to Rachel Donelson in 1791, but it was later shown that she was still married to her previous husband. The married again, legally, in 1794. Andrew Jackson had three adopted sons; Theodore, Andrew Jackson Jr., and Lyncoya. Upon his death he left his estate to Andrew Jackson Jr. (with the exception of a few items given specifically to other family and freinds). He also had guardianship of several other children; John Samuel Donelson, Daniel Smith Donelson, Andrew Jackson Donelson, Andrew Jackson Hutchings, Caroline Butler, Eliza Butler, Edward Butler, and Anthony Butler.

This son, Andrew Jackson, Jr(1808-1865) , became the heir of the Jackson estate. Andrew Jackson, Jr. would eventually sell the Hermitage to the State of Tennessee to pay off huge debts he had incurred. He continued to live there, rent free, until his death in 1865. His wife, Sarah Yorke , continued to live at the Hermitage until her death in 1888.The Jackson's also adopted a young Creek (Native American) boy, Lincoya, whose parents had been killed by Jackson's troops in the Battle of Horseshoe Bend. Lincoya died at the age of 16 of tuberculosis just a few months before his father was elected as president.[Source: All The President's Children by Doug Wead, 2003.]
