$100 for a new switch at Napa Auto Parts. Most neutral safety switches are a sealed, non reparable unit. If you are doing this yourself, I would recommend testing the wiring before replacing the unit since it is expensive. According to the Napa website, the safety switch on the 2001 Chevy Malibu does more tha simply close when in neutral, so I cannot give specifics. I recommend checking your local library to see if they have a copy of the shop manual. It will have detailed troubleshooting flowcharts to track down the exact problem.
There should be a label on the radio, if it is not there you can go to your library, they should have automotive repair manuals, photo copy what you need. If you are desperate, you could ask your local Chrysler dealer if they would make a copy for you.

Your public library has wiring schematics for most vehicles. Find the page(s) you need, and use the library copy machine to make photocopies. Normally, you cannot check out these manuals.
I bought a copy of a manual on Ebay (public domain I assume) that was full of diagrams and schematics of every aspect of my Ford 3000 tractor. I highly recommend if that dealer is still on Ebay. Sure has saved me some money by having it.
