If you wish to acquire a puppy then a good place to start is to go to your town/cities local kennel club(s). There you will be able to view a list of reputable french bulldog breeders in the area. The list will contain contact information so that you may talk to the breeder of your potential puppy and arrange a time you can visit their kennel/home to view their puppies.
Another option is to go to a local dog show featuring the breed(s) you are interested in- in this case the French Bulldog. After the show you should talk to the owners and/or handlers of the french bulldog and ask if they have any puppies available. If not then ask them if they could recommend other Frenchie breeders in the area who you could get in touch with.
If you are in favor of acquiring an adult Frenchie than you may want get in touch with your local animal shelter and ask if they know of any rescue organizations in the area specified in French Bulldogs.
As far as pet-stores are concerned- its best to avoid them.
