Sphincters are muscular valves found throughout the body used to open or close an opening. An example is the cardiac sphincter which prevents food from coming back up the esophagus after swallowing

Hi (1) Cardiac Sphincter, at the top of the stomach (this is the one that is not a true sphincter), separating the stomach from the esophagus. (2) Iliac Sphincter , at the bottom of the stomach, separating the stomach from the small intestine. (3) Ileocecal Valve separates the small intestine from the large intestine (4) Involuntary Anal Sphincter, which is responsible for generating the urge to defecate. (5) Voluntary Anal Sphincter, which allows one to control defecation. Wish me luck for my Biology exam dude,

The device is implanted over the sacral anterior root ganglia of the spinal cord; which is controlled by an external transmitter, it delivers intermittent stimulation which improves bladder emptying and it also helps in defecation . besides ,it enables male patients to have a sustained full erection.

The related procedure of sacral nerve stimulation is for the control of incontinence in otherwise able-bodied patients.

A sphincter is a circular muscle that constricts a natural body passage or orifice. There are over 50 sphincters in the human body, some of them microscopic.

For example:

The pupillary sphincter is the iris in the eye.

The anus has two sphincters; inner sphincter is involuntary and the outer is voluntary.

There are several sites of sphincters in the body. One is at the bottom of the stomach to prevent backflow from the small intestines. The urethra and rectum each have sphincters to prevent involuntary loss of urine and stool.
