They say the DJs started it. Back in the days there were only a few seconds of fresh music on each album they bring to the parties, so they mixed them up and played the same loop over and over again. DJs also were the first rappers. They shouted out lines like "the roof is on fire" or "throw your hands up in the air, and wave it like you just don't care" while break dancers would dance on the floor. Graffiti writing also started out and there were times when only graffiti writers would go to the parties. Without them hip-hop would have died right then and then. Hip-hop was the answer to all the gang fights and drugs. It was all about having fun back then. This is how i heard.
