Sounds like your keyboard has been changed to a different layout. You can manually insert a / mark - by looking for it in the Character Map - and use copy/paste to insert where you need it to be.
Typing the forward slash and getting another character is likely caused by having a different keyboard map turned on. A different language set can also be installed which will cause this to happen as well.
You may have your keyboard setting on a foreign keyboard. Double check it is set to the proper layout and try again.
