In 1564 Huguenots escaped France and got to St. Augustine, Florida that was inhabited by the Portuguese and Spanish. Upon hearing about the Huguenot refugees, the Portuguese and Spanish massacred all of the people on the ship since they were Protestants. When questioned later about the Huguenots, the people of St. Augustine claimed they died in an epidemic. Odd thing is they all died on the same day.
