How did the rosary began?

The rosary is said whenever you want to say it! It is a form of contemplative prayer which means that if you are new to the practice you should try and pray it in an area where you can quiet and focus your mind. Some people who recite the rosary say it for a special intention. For an example, whenever I pray the rosary I add at the end "I dedicate this rosary to all those struggling with addictions". You can dedicate it to whatever cause but in the end, one does not need a clear cut time and place to pray the rosary!

Pope St. Pius V put the feast of the Most Holy Rosary on October 7 back in 1571 to celebrate the Victory of Our Lady over the Turks at Lepanto. We know that for many centuries, the faithful would say 150 Our Fathers as they could not recite the 150 Psalms as the monks did, mostly because they couldn't read, and there were no Bibles. Before printing they were prohibitively expensive, and took years for a monk to produce just one Bible. Later the 150 Our Fathers were changed to 150 Hail Marys. The Rosary has been associated with the Dominicans for nearly 500 years.
