On December 6,1923 , President Calvin Coolidge had his State of the Union Address to Congress broadcast live across the nation. That was the first live radio speech. Coolidge later made several radio campaign speeches.

Earlier, on June 14,1922, a speech of President Warren Harding which had been recorded on a disk, was broadcast on commercial radio. Woodrow Wilsonin 1919 made some remarks from shore to sailors on some US navy ships at sea via a military radio- the first time a President spoke on the radio.
