The International Peace Garden was established on July 14, 1932. At that time, there was a stone cairn with an inscription and two flag poles on the US/Canada border.
In 1934, the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) began work on the area, constructing fences, lagoons, the first building, and two lakes.
