Google Earth V7.0 was released for the Android platform in June 27, 2012 and for desktop platforms (out of beta version) on Dec 18, 2012. Google Earth 7.1.1.1580 (beta) was released on April 22, 2013.
The latest (non-beta) version of Google Earth is 7.1.7.2605 released in Oct 2016. The previous stable version was 7.1.6 released in May 2016. The initial version was released in 2001. The 7.x and 6.x versions of Google Earth version include Street View, viewing Mars, Sky view, looking under water at things like the RMS Titanic, a Flight Simulator, among other useful features. Note as of Jan 2012 Street View is no longer be supported in Google Earth 5.2 or older.

Google Earth 6 is the most current version of Google Earth. As for the satellite imagery and layers hosted by Google, the same data appears on Google Earth 5 and Google Earth 6 alike. In fact, Google Maps for the most part shows the same satellite imagery as that in Google Earth but sometimes the imagery updates for one is slightly ahead of the other.
