When the moon blocks sunlight from reaching a portion of the earths surface?
It's a solar eclipse. The next one is scheduled for sometime in 2012

You have the Sun over there in space and the Earth over here in space. OK? For conduction to work the two bodies must be physically touching - the sun and the earth are not… in direct contact (there is space between them) so the Sun's heat can not be conducted to Earth. For convection to work you need a fluid or air round the two objects - the sun and the earth are separated by the vacuum of space (no fluid or air) so the Sun's heat can not be convected to the Earth. The third means of transferring heat is by radiation, this travels across space just fine and thus it is the means by which the Sun's energy reaches the Earth (as sunlight).
A little over 8 minutes The speed of light is 299,792,458 m/s (we'll use 3x10^8 m/s) The average distance from the Earth to the Sun is 149.6x10^9 m time = distance/velocity… t â (149.6x10^9 m)/(3x10^8 m/s) t â 498.667 s minutes = 498.667 s/60 t â 8.3 minutes
The moon is only big enough to block sunlight from a small spot on the Earth ... never more than about 170 miles across. On the rare occasion when that happens, the event… is called a "solar eclipse".An eclipse occurs when the Moon blocks sunlight from reachingEarth. The same is true when the opposite occurs.
A Lunar Eclipse
This is the definition of an eclipse . If the Sun, Earth and Moon are in a direct line, the shadow of the Moon can fall on the Earth, or the shadow of the Earth can fall on t…he Moon. When the shadow of the Moon falls on the Earth, it creates a moving shadow region called a solar eclipse . If the shadow is not directly aligned, it can create a "partial solar eclipse", which also occurs in the adjacent regions to either side of the complete shadow path during a total solar eclipse. When the Earth partially darkens the Moon, it is called a lunar eclipse . The sunlight is refracted by Earth's atmosphere, allowing some light to still reach the Moon, giving it a reddish color. An eclipse that does not cover the entire lunar face is called a "partial lunar eclipse".
At a lunar ecilps the earth blocks light from the sun to the moon.At a solar ecilps the moon blocks sunlight from reaching earth resulting in the darkening of the earth and th…ose happens after a few years
A solar eclipse
Then, at that part of the Earth, people will see a solar eclipse.
Yes, it does it says in my Astronomy book.
In The Moon
In The Moon
stupid solar eclips
When the moon blocks sunlight from reaching a portion of theearth's surfaces it is called a solar eclipse. A solar eclipse canbe total or partial. Unlike a lunar eclipse, whic…h can be viewed atnight from anywhere on the dark side of the earth, a solar eclipsecan be viewed from only a relatively small area of the world. Atotal solar eclipse happens when the earth, moon, and sun are in astraight line, or as astronomers say, in syzygy, with the moon inthe middle and appearing to completely cover the sun but for a softsurround of reflected light behind it. A solar eclipse can happenonly at new moon. Not to be confused with a lunar eclipse, whichcan happen only at full moon. The next partial solar eclipse is onSeptember 13, 2015. The next total solar eclipse is on March 20,2015.
