You should use CPR if a person is not breathing (place your ear nearly to their nose/mouth, and look, listen, feel for warmth) and has no pulse (using you pointer finger, feel along the side of the neck for a carotid pulse).

You only give CPR if the person is NOT conscious, NOT breathing, and has NO pulse. You may need to do only respirations if the person is not breathing but still has a pulse; re-check pulse often.

CPR is used when no signs of life are present in an adult; and in an infant & child when no signs of life and no pulse is present.
