When you read to your children, talk with them, discipline them, train them, you are beginning in homeschooling. Whether you continue with more formal instruction is a decision that you can make later. I think that every good and responsible parent is a homeschooling parent, even if they do send their kids to an outside school.

My wife and I have homeschooled our five children. They range in age from 22 to 12. Our oldest will graduate from college this spring and our youngest is in sixth grade. They have all done well.

We both have education degrees but some of the best teachers we have known have lacked teaching certificates while a couple only have high school diplomas. We have taught in public schools where we have seen both wonderful and abysmal teachers. While most probably enter the field for the right reasons, some are only sticking around for the money, health insurance, and pensions. Rather than risk getting a few like that for our dear children, we opted to try homeschooling.

Each year, we continued to evaluate our children to ensure that we were doing the best we could for them. We continued to keep them at home, but we involved them in a great many outside opportunities and experiences so they could become well-rounded and responsible. We have participated in a homeschooling cooperative in which my wife taught subjects in which she is strong and other parents taught classes in subjects in which they were comfortable. That was a big help, too. Finally, in the last two or three years of high school, we dual-enrolled them at our local community college.

This is certainly much more than the info you requested, but I wanted to show the holistic continuum of thought. Try it out. See how it works for you. See if you can manage. Try to find mentors in your area. Try to find a support group. We believe it is a great life and we think that your kids will be better for it. And that is what we all desire: to see our children do well!

How can parents help their preschooler?

If you mean in the subject of school, I would recommend homeschooling your preschooler (for now at least). Then, maybe by the time they are old enough to go to an elementary school, You can decide either to keep home schooling them or to send them to a public or private school. Also, if you have doubts about homeschooling your child, you should know that it does not make a college less likely to accept a home schooled student than a public or private schooled student. If you feel that your child could get a better education at home, then you should home school them.

How transfer from public school to homeschool?

Homeschooling is governed by state law, and the laws vary a great deal from state to state. In some states your local school may be the best source of information about the appropriate procedures, but in some states public school people have little or nothing to do with homeschooling and may know very little about it. The best place to start is with a state homeschooling support group. You should be able to find one online, and they should be able to point you in the right direction.

How much money does it take for homeschooling?

the money is not what you should be concerned with. The homeschooling programs out there are all christian based and that could prevent your child from learning science based material.
