2012, and the world
There have been people predicting the end of the world from before the time of recorded history. Every culture, every religion, and every society has different prophecies about when the world will end. History shows us that empires, cultures and eras all eventually wind down or have catastrophic ends. But "the world" in the sense of humankind, continues. If "the world" means the planet or our particular solar system or galaxy, these, too, will eventually burn out and come to an end. If "the world" refers to the universe, then a final end is less certain.
