The "official" Oktoberfest is in Munich (that's the one that you see on the TV) but most towns have their own celebrations as well. Stuttgart has the 2nd biggest Oktoberfest celebrations in all of Germany, and it's much more family friendly there (Oktoberfest in Munich is VERY intense).
The Oktoberfest is held from late September to the first weekend in October on the Theresienwiese (Wiesn), in Munich, Germany.
Oktoberfest or October fest, is held in Munich this year from the twenty first of September to the sixth of October. Many countries celebrate however and have local festivals to honor the occasion.
As far as I know, there are no other names for Oktoberfest, that is if you meant the annual festival held in Munich. However, for other versions of Oktoberfest held all over the world, I am sure they make have slightly different names. Otherwise, mostly it is just called Oktoberfest.
The original Oktoberfest was held in Munich on October 17, 1810, to honor the marriage of Crown Prince Ludwig (who would become KingLudwig I) and Princess Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen (after whom the Theresienwiese festival grounds, where Oktoberfest is held, is named.)
