Depending on the variety, carnations are summer flowers blooming from June to September. They need full sun to bloom properly, and it is always best to deadhead (remove spent blooms) in order to prolong the flowering season and help the plant branch out into a thick mound.

A green carnation represents health, resilience, good fortune and youth. It is not one that you will find in the family garden, as these "hot house" plants are carefully grown in greenhouses for the cut flower trade. Many florists use the flower farms in Ecuador or Columbia and your fresh carnations arrive at your door within 3 days after the order is placed. They can be requested online or through your local florist any day of the year, and therefore not limited to a season.
