The first Rose of Tralee festival started in 1959, but it was based on a similar festival that had been discontinued due to post war emigration, known as Tralee's Carnival Queen, and had been partially revived in 1957 as part of the Tralee Race Week. For 2010 the festival runs from Friday the 20th of August to Wednesday the 24th of August.
