The first European to land on the Solomons did think he had arrived at Solomon's lands -- he had no idea where he was, in fact, because no one could do longitude in those days. However, the name stuck.

This most like means that there is bamboo there (unless they bought it somewhere else) Secondly, Australia has many bamboo species. As the Solomon Islands is part of Oceania and pretty close to Australia, it will have likely spread there over the years. No. During World War 2, the Japanese tried moving down south but stopped as far as the Solomon Islands due to the British who tried to stop the Japanese invade and take over the Pacific Island Nation.
