A McDonald's owner in Cincinnati, OH who lived in a predominantly Roman Catholic neighborhood came up with the idea to draw in those customers who engaged in the practice of not eating meat on Fridays.
Mcdonald's introduced the Filet-o-Fish sandwich in 1962. The sandwich was first sold locally in Cincinnati, by Lou Groen. National roll-out began in 1963 and it was sold chainwide by 1965.
