Alzheimer's is one of many types of dementia.
The term dementia describes a group of symptoms that are caused by changes in brain function. Dementia symptoms may include: * becoming lost in familiar places * being unable to follow directions * asking the same questions repeatedly * neglecting personal safety, hygiene, and nutrition * getting disoriented about time, people, and places Many different medical conditions may cause symptoms that seem like Alzheimer's, but are not.
Dementia is the collective name of the symptoms, whereas Alzheimer's is the name of the disease itself. There is more detailed information at the following link: http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/alzheimers-disease-and-dementia/AZ00053
Dementia has many different forms, and Alzheimer's is one of them. With Alzheimer's a person ends up losing their mind over a period of time. With the other forms of Dementia they will just forget things but then remember them.
I considered the information on the internet. The difference is that dementia is the actual symptom that you would experience and Alzheimer's causes dementia. I would also think that the signs of both would differ in seriousness and amount. You'd probably be worse in dementia than Alzheimer's.
