Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was a young man of 24 when he arrived in South Africa in 1893. After refusing to move from the first class to a third class coach he was thrown of the train because of his skin color because white people could only sit in the first class seats. What Gandhi had found was a cause that he could dedicate himself to equality and freedom, also he held a protest against violence. Gandhi fought against the British using non violence. Gandhi won freedom for Africa.

He suffered other problems on the journey as well (because of the color of his skin), including not being allowed in many hotels and pubs.

I don't think he did all that much, but what's interesting is that in South Africa Gandhi got his inspiration to make India an Independent the thing that happened was that a Boer guard demanded him to go into the cattle carriage on a train although he had a first class ticket(because the colour of his skin of course). When he refused the guard threw him of the train at the next station. That was the moment he understood the meaning of his life and we all know how it turned out.

He originally went out there to either beg the case of one of his clients, or to find a suitable job.(Sorry, you will have to work out that one for yourself) ...He eventually ended up fighting against slavery because he was sick of seeing it everywhere.
