∙ 9y agoThe Pilgrims believed in predestination and Godâ??s plan. Everything in the world, including Man, had been predestined to be made by God. They held to two sacraments. These were Baptism and The Lordâ??s Supper. Pilgrims did not celebrate religious holidays like Christmas and Easter, since they believed these were man made and therefore not holy. They did honor and observe the Sabbath, no work was done on Sunday.

∙ 12y agothey wanted to start their own religion they only had enough money to sail to the nedtherlands they didn't like it there they're children were learning dutch as they're main language so they needed to leave, to America, to have the life they wanted. they didnt have enough money so they signed a contract to be indentured servants at Jamestown, an indentured servant was somebody who could not pay for their journey to America, so they signed a contract that stated they would work for a certain period of time for whoever paid they're fair. the pilgrims were to land at Jamestown to be servants, but someone slipped a bag of gold to the captain and they landed in Massachusetts, not serving as servants, so really your beloved pilgrims were actually criminals, they may have started Thanksgiving with Indians, but 10 years after the first thanksgiving 1000 more pilgrims arrived and killed the Indians who had the 1st thanksgiving, they exterminated them. WIPED THEM OFF THE FACE OF THE EARTH. now none of that tribe is alive, im sorry it was 2 tribes haha

∙ 12y agoThe Puritans thought that the Church of England didn't have the right organ music, the right decorations for the house of worship, and the priest didn't wear the right clothing. So, they miced the roman catholic church and the church of England together.

Basically, the Puritan's beliefs were more like a theology than an actual religion. They took ideas from Christianity and idealized them, then applied that to their lives. They believed it was up to God to save you or not, and it was up to Him to reward or punish you. They believed that the only reason man was on Earth was to praise God's glory, and that a man's first concern was the will of God, among other things.
Puritan's were also marked as to have less rituals than Catholicism and emphasized more on preaching. They generally believed in worshiping how the Bible said to worship, and so got rid of most of the stuff found in a church. (ie, candles, images, etc). They also did not practice the holidays, such as Christmas and Good Friday.
