Galileo is often credited with the invention of the telescope. But he is not the inventor. Galileo Galilei heard of the invention of the telescope in Holland and decided to build his own because he was under house arrest for the rest of his life due to his support of Copernicus's theory of a sun centered solar system. His telescope was infact around 32 times better than the one in Holland and was the first one to be used to look at the night sky. He also discovered with that telescope: the moon has mountains and valleys, the sun has spots, that moons orbit Jupiter (he found 4). The fact that moons obit Jupiter interfeared with the beleif that everything orbited the earth and landed him in even more trouble.
Well technically , Galileo had alot of accomplishments ,but I'll name a few of them. So one of them was he invented the telescope (to study outer space ) . While doing that he studied a lot of lunar activity. And finally he learn a lot about the solar system. So those were some of the (greatest) accomplishments of Galileo Galilei.
Galileo was an Italian astronomer born in Pisa in 1564 and as a student of medicine came to disbelieve the prevailing theories. He began the University of Pisa in 1581 and came up with the theory of oscillation while attending services in the cathedral. The study of math led him to invent hydrostatic balance and write a paper on gravity. He became a professor of math at the university and proved the theory that all bodies, great or small, descend at the same speed. Other inventions his improvement of the refracting telescope and his discoveries of the Milky Way as well as the 4 moons of Jupiter in 1610. He noticed spots on the sun and inferred its rotation. Wrote a book on the rotation of the earth around the sun in 1613 and was censured by the church. He promised in 1616 to quit telling his theory, but in 1632 he wrote a second book about his theory and was called before the Pope and sentenced to imprisonment.
he found the moon over 9000 times.
