The United States government made its job to kil, starve, or put tribes on reservations. In 1877 President Hays gave General Sherman the task of riding the plains of Native Americans. In war Sherman believed that total war was the answer. In the civil war he burned his way through the south, so he decided to kill off the buffalo herds on the plains to kill or starve the tribes living there. Millions of buffalo were killed by men hired to shoot them. Buffalo Bill Cody earned his name for killing 5,000 buffalo in a few weeks. Before the establishment of the United States the colonies practiced environmental terrorism by bringing in foreign plants and animals. One insect was very destructive and that was the honey bee. This was a very real threat to the life of Native Americans. All of the events I have mentioned the tribes were threatened from the very first encounter with the old world in 1492.
